UK Government extends eviction ban

eviction

The UK Government has now provided much needed clarification that the protection from eviction it has provided renters in England and Wales will be extended. The suspension of new evictions has been extended until 23 August 2020 for evictions from social or private rented accommodation.

Court rules will also be amended to ensure vulnerable renters will be protected from eviction when the suspension ends.

Whilst this does provide clarification on the suspension of evictions, the UK Government also reiterated their that they are committed to ensuring that no one is evicted from their home due to coronavirus (COVID-19). It remains to be seen whether any further protections will be introduced in order that the UK Government can fulfil this commitment.
