The Ministry of Justice has published provisional tribunal statistics for October to December 2017. Since the abolition of Employment Tribunal (ET) fees, single claims received have increased by 90% and multiple ET claims received have increased by 467%.
Some 8,173 single claims were filed with the tribunal system over the three months to December 31st, a 16% increase compared to the previous quarter. Employers are increasingly wary of the risk of a claim being brought when handling HR issues.
Karl Thomas, Employment Law Specialist and Partner at Loosemores Solicitors commented:
“This upward trend is likely to continue. Our advice to employers is to put in place all of the key employment documentation and to take advice on any employment issues early to avoid them escalating. As always, prevention is the best action to take.
Our Loosemores HR scheme offers a cost-effective way of obtaining all the support you will need to comply with your obligations as an employer and minimise the risk of an employment tribunal claim being pursued against you”.
