Top Tier Legal 500 Rankings for Loosemores

Loosemores Legal 500 2022

We are delighted to be recognised as a ‘Top Tier’ firm in The Legal 500, 2022 edition.

Sport – Tier 1

The firm retained its ‘Top Tier’ ranking for Sport. Senior Partner, Mark Loosemore also retained his ranking as a ‘Leading Individual’ in Sport. Solicitor, Rebecca McCarthy was recognised as ‘Rising Star’ for Sport.

Corporate and Commercial Partner, Siôn Tudur and Employment and Dispute Resolution Partner, Karl Thomas were recognised as ‘Key Lawyers’ by The Legal 500.

The Legal 500 commented:

Displaying a ‘genuine commitment, passion for, and interest in Wales, the culture and sport’, Loosemores Solicitors has developed an impressively strong client base in the sector, including among many national sporting bodies/organisations. Much of the success for the firm’s prominence in the space is down to the skills and leadership of senior partner Mark Loosemore, whose ‘specialist experience in sport and media work is highly valued across the sector’. Although he is involved at the sharp end of much of the key commercial work handled by the firm, Loosemore is perhaps best-known for his continued representation of the Football of Association of Wales across a range of matters including drafting and negotiating sponsorship and licensing contracts and media rights agreements. Other key practitioners include associate Rebecca McCarthy, who leverages her ‘in-depth knowledge of charity law’ to good effect, including on governance issues; ‘very committed and hardworking’ litigator Karl Thomas, who is regularly involved in significant sports disciplinary cases and regulatory disputes; and Siôn Tudur, who will ‘go the extra mile for clients’ engaged in corporate and commercial work in the sector.

Media and Entertainment – Tier 1

The firm has retained its ‘Top Tier’ ranking for Media and Entertainment. Media consultant Solicitor, Sara Griffiths also retained her ranking as a ‘Leading Individual’ for Media and Entertainment in Wales.

Corporate and Commercial Partner, Siôn Tudur was recognised as a ‘Key Lawyer’ by The Legal 500.

The Legal 500 commented:

Cardiff boutique Loosemores Solicitors has established an excellent reputation among sports and creative industry clients, as a result of its ‘ferociously hardworking‘ ethos and the ‘incredible breadth and depth of knowledge it has across the firmament of media and entertainment issues. Formerly head of legal at S4C, Sara Griffiths has ‘great technical skill and knowledge‘ on matters impacting clients in the broadcasting, film and tv sectors, and as well as her direct fee-earning work, she is also a great champion of the local creative community (as is demonstrated by her involvement and pro-bono advice to members of the leading membership organisation for women working in media). Recognised as a ‘shrewd tactician‘ and a ‘class act‘, senior partner Mark Loosemore also regularly handles media and entertainment matters for his vast array of sporting clients, including negotiating and drafting sponsorship and media and data rights agreements.

Charities and Not-for-profit – Tier 2

The firm achieved ‘Tier 2’ ranking for Charities and Not-for-profit. Charity team lead, Rebecca McCarthy was recognised as ‘Rising Star’ for Charities and Not-for-profit in Wales.

Senior Partner, Mark Loosemore was recognised as a ‘Key Lawyer’ by The Legal 500.

The Legal 500 commented:

Benefiting from ‘in-depth experience and knowledge’ of the commercial and governance requirements of a myriad charities/not-for-profit organisations, the ‘proactive and responsive‘ team at Loosemores Solicitors has an excellent reputation in the Welsh market, particularly among sporting organisations. Although it is also able to draw upon the wider resources of employment and corporate lawyers at the firm, should the need arise, clients are particularly appreciative of ‘standout‘ team head Rebecca McCarthy, who is one of the few charity law specialists in Wales, and is therefore very well-equipped to advise on incorporation and governance issues specific to charities.

We would like to thank our clients for all their continued support.
