Q&A With Laurie Jefferies

>Cymraeg<

We continue our Q&A series with another one of our Trainee Solicitors. Laurie Jefferies has just recently moved from our Property department to Probate, Wills and Trusts to progress her training contract. Learn more about Laurie in our latest Q&A:

You live in Cardiff now, but where are you from?

I am from the small village of Abercarn in South Wales. Once a thriving coal mining and industrial community, it’s perhaps better known now for the scenic drive in the nearby village of Cwmcarn and mountain walks in the Gwyddon Forestry.

How have you found your time at Loosemores?

I feel privileged to be part of a firm which truly values their clients and employees. I have had direct supervision from lawyers who are experts in their field and as a trainee solicitor, this is a rare and invaluable experience. I’m looking forward to developing my skills further in the Probate, Wills and Trusts department.

What’s your highlight?

There have been many highlights for me here at Loosemores during my seat in the Property department; from arranging sales and purchases of property for individuals to drafting leases for companies. Perhaps the most memorable highlight was assisting with the lease for A Space in the City Limited. It’s really satisfying to work on projects that have a positive impact on the area where I live and work. I am proud to contribute to projects which are continuing to develop Cardiff as a vibrant city which has an emerging presence on a national and international level.

What’s your role in the Junior Lawyers Division Cardiff and South East Wales?

I am on the Committee as Welsh Language Officer for the Cardiff and South East Wales Division and seek to promote the use of Welsh with our Members. It’s been fantastic to get involved in the projects with the JLD. It’s a great organisation supporting young professionals in the field of law which provides a network of opportunities to lawyers who are just getting started with their careers. I am really excited for the upcoming events!

What are your hobbies?

I really enjoy creative activities such as painting in my spare time (I’m no Van Gogh!) as I find it quite therapeutic. I love horseriding and generally being outdoors or exploring country walks. However, you can often find me in the garage tinkering with a collection of vintage motorbikes. I currently have a 1953 James Cadet 122cc for restoration.

Your go-to coffee order?

Cappuccino- with chocolate sprinkled on top

Favourite band/musician?

Led Zeppelin

And finally, what advice would you give to law graduates who are looking for a training contract?

Persevere but take your time to gain experience in your chosen area of law. Attend networking events to understand the market and the needs of your clients. Choose your firms carefully as it is a two way process- it is just as important for candidates to select the right firm as it is for recruiters to select the right candidate.

Q&A Cymraeg

Holi ein Cyfreithiwraig dan Hyfforddiant, Laurie Jefferies

Rydym yn parhau ein sesiwn holi ac ateb gyda’n cyfreithwyr dan hyfforddiant. Mae Laurie Jefferies newydd symud o’n adran Eiddo a Thir i’n adran Ewyllysiau, Ymddiriedolaethau a Phrofiant. Dysgwch mwy am Laurie yn ein sesiwn holi ac ateb diweddaraf:

Rwyt ti’n byw yng Nghaerdydd nawr ond lle oeddet ti’n byw yn wreiddiol?

Cefais fy magu yn Abercarn, De Cymru. Mae Abercarn yn ei hadnabod am ei chymuned diwydiant glo. Maent bellach yn ei hadnabod am ei llwybrau cefn gwlad yng Nghoedwig Cwm Gwyddon.

Sut mae gweithio gydag Loosemores?

Rwy’n ffodus iawn i fod yn rhan o gwmni sy’n parchu eu cydweithwyr a chleientiaid. Rwy wedi derbyn goruchwyliaeth gan gyfreithwyr sy’n arbenigwyr eu maes. Fel cyfreithwraig dan hyfforddiant, mae hyn yn brofiad hollol unigryw ac amhrisiadwy. Rwy’n edrych ymlaen at ddatblygu fy sgiliau ymhellach yn yr adran Ewyllysiau, Ymddiriedolaethau a Phrofiant.

Beth yw dy uchafbwynt?

Rwy wedi derbyn nifer o brofiadau positif wrth weithio yn Loosemores- rhwng paratoi trafodion prynu a gwerthu eiddo unigolion a drafftio prydlesi ar gyfer cwmnïau. Yr uchafbwynt imi oedd cael gweithio ar ddrafftio prydles A Space in the City Limited. Mae fe’n bleser gweithio ar brosiectau sy’n creu argraff bositif ar y ddinas. Rwy’n hynod o falch i gyfrannu at brosiectau sy’n datblygu Caerdydd fel dinas sy’n bresennol ar y farchnad genedlaethol a thu hwnt.

Beth yw dy rôl yn yr Adran Cyfreithwyr Iau Caerdydd a De Ddwyrain Cymru?

Rwy’n cynrychioli’r Adran Cyfreithwyr Iau Caerdydd a De Ddwyrain Cymru fel Swyddog Iaith Gymraeg. Fy ymgais yw hybu’r defnydd o’r Gymraeg rhwng ein haelodau. Mae di fod yn brofiad gwych i fod yn rhan o brosiectau’r Gymdeithas wrth eistedd ar y Pwyllgor. Maent yn gymdeithas sy’n cynorthwyo cyfreithwyr iau yn eu gyrfaoedd trwy ddarparu cyfleoedd a rhyngweithiadau arbennig i gyfreithwyr sydd ar fin cychwyn eu gyrfaoedd. Rwy’n gyffrous iawn am y digwyddiadau i ddod!

Beth yw dy diddordebau?

Mae gweithgareddau creadigol megis peintio yn gysur i mi (so fi’n Van Gough o gwbl!). Rwy’n mwynhau merlota a chrwydro llwybrau cefn gwlad. Fel arfer, byddai’n treulio amser ar brosiectau beic modur. Mae gennyf beic modur James Cadet 122cc i’w drwsio ar hyn o bryd.

Dy hoff coffi?

Cappuccino- gyda siocled

Dy hoff fand/cantorwr(es)?

Led Zeppelin

I orffen, beth yw dy gyngor i fyfyrwyr israddedig yn y Gyfraith sy’n chwilio am hyfforddiant?

Byddaf yn argymell i fod yn amyneddgar ac i ddal ati yn y Gyfraith. Cymerwch eich amser, mynnwch ar brofiad gwaith mewn maes sy’n berthnasol ac o ddiddordeb i chi. Byddwch yn ofalus wrth ddewis cwmni cyfreithiol- mae fe’n yr un mor bwysig i chi ddewis y cwmni cywir ar eich cyfer ag yw e o safbwynt y cyflogwr.
