Hywel Thomas is one year into his training contract with the aim of completing in the summer. We caught up with Hywel to learn more about our trainee solicitor.
You live in Cardiff now, but where are you from?
“I’m originally from Carmarthenshire. Having graduated from Cardiff University in 2013, I moved around a bit before eventually settling here in 2017. I feel settled here and love living and working in Cardiff.”
It has been 1 year since you joined Loosemores, how have you found it?
“It’s been a fantastic experience and I have thoroughly enjoyed working at a boutique law firm. I feel that I have had great supervision and have had plenty of opportunity to develop by being given high-quality work.”
What’s your highlight?
“I worked on the acquisition of Studio Cambridge last summer. It was fantastic to work on the due diligence process from start to finish and seeing completion and post-completion through.”
What are your hobbies?
“I’m a very active person and I have a particular interest in sport, whether that’s sitting on the sofa watching sports or playing Rugby on the weekends. In the summer I try to play Cricket or Golf when I can but it depends on the number of Rugby injuries I’m carrying (I say with a broken finger). Other than that I enjoy attending the Eisteddfod each year and whenever I’m back in West Wales I take every opportunity I can to get back on top of my Surfboard.”
Your go-to coffee order?
Rugby or Football?
Your all-time favourite player?
And finally, what advice would you give to law graduates who are looking for a training contract?
“Be patient. Do not rush your decision. Pick a firm that is right for you.”
