Employment Tribunal Fees Scrapped

Employment tribunal fees will be scrapped after UNISON won a landmark court victory against the government. The Supreme Court – the UK’s highest court – has unanimously ruled that the government was acting unlawfully and unconstitutionally when it introduced fees of up to £1,200 four years ago.
A government report found there had been a 70% fall in the number of cases since the introduction of the fees in 2013. That fall in the number of claims is likely to be reversed and the scrapping of fees is almost certain to lead to a sharp rise in claims issued against employers in the coming months.
This means that it becomes ever more important for employers to comply with their obligations towards employees and to deal with workplace issues before they escalate.
